Washington, D.C. -The Queens College men's basketball team fell to the University of the District of Columbia, 89-79, in an East Coast Conference matchup played in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Paul Little scored 22 points, his highest total as a Knight, in the defeat.
Queens took a 7-2 lead in the game as Little opened the scoring with a three-pointer, scored on a putback, and dunked home a pass from Matej Jurcevic. The Knights got the lead up to ten, 17-7, on a pair of threes from Diego Maldonado and Kyheim Chaplin and baskets from Jeremiah Mordi and Jurcevic.
UDC slowly chipped away at the deficit, eventually tying the score at 28-28 with 6:43 left in the half. From there, The Firebirds went ahead by ten themselves before QC got hot again.
The Knights used a 9-0 run to close within a point. Little scored five points in the stretch while Obi Udezeh and Chaplin added baskets and UDC led 40-39, with 2:12 left in the half.The Firebirds closed out the half with seven straight points and led at the break 47-39.
In the second half, UDC led by twelve at 17:31 when the Knights got hot again. Maldonado cut the gap to ten with a jumper, Mohamed Dansoko made consecutive layups and Maldonado capped a nine-point run with a three and the Knights trailed by three, 55-52, with 13:48 left. The Firebirds pushed the lead back to double digits and the Knights never got closer than five as UDC won 89-79.
Mordi finished with 20 while Chaplin scored 11. The team is now 5-17 overall and 5-10 in the ECC. They return to action on Wednesday, February 12, when they host NYIT.
