Box Score Washington, D.C. - The Queens College women's basketball team came up on the short end of a 66-61 game against District of Columbia, in a battle of the East Coast Conference's top two teams on Wednesday in our nation's capital. MacKenzie Rowland, Madison Rowland and Kristen Korzevinski all finished in double-figures in the loss.
The first 2:21 of game time saw the Firebirds jump out to a 10-2 lead, with the only QC points coming from Madison Rowland layup. UDC built their highest lead of the game -11 points- when they made a three-pointer with 7:36 remaining.
Queens closed out the half by nearly erasing the entire 11-point deficit, trailing at the break, 34-33. QC outscored UDC 10-1 in the last 3:34 of the half. Joy McFarland scored the final five points on a bucket and a three-pointer.
Queens took a 35-34 lead, their only lead of the game, when Korzevinski opened the second half with a jumper off a feed from Imani Davidson. The Firebirds took the lead right back. Queens tied the score once in the half and got as close as two points on another occasion, but UDC held on for a 66-61 win.
The Knights fell to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the ECC. The Firebirds are 20-3 overall and 13-2 in conference play. The two sides split the season series.
Madison Rowland finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Her career scoring total moved to 986, just 14 shy of the 1000 point plateau. MacKenzie Rowland scored 12 while Korzevinski put in 11 points on 5-8 shooting.
The team returns to action on Wednesday, February 18 when they host NYIT. The opening tip is slated for 7:30 PM.
