White Nets 28 As Knights Grab ECC Opener

SPARKILL, N.Y. - Junior guard Tyree White led three players in double figures with a game-high 28 points to lead the Queens College men's basketball team to a 69-64 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas in the team's ECC opener Wednesday evening.

White connected on 10 of 18 attempts, and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line.  Junior Kyheim Chaplin had 14 points while senior Paul Little had 13 points.

With the score even at six after the game's first five minutes, Queens went on a 12-4 run to open an 18-10 advantage midway through the first half. The Knights would stay ahead for the remainder of the period and took a 32-23 lead into the locker room.

Queens held a 51-37 with 11:44 left in the second period, before Chaplin's basket with six minutes left pushed the advantage to 59-48.

The Spartans closed the gap to 59-57 with 3:15 left. After STAC's basket cut the lead to two, a pivotal free throw to complete a three-point play was missed to keep the Knights ahead.

QC ended the game on a 10-7 run as White punctuated the victory with a dunk in the closing seconds.

The Knights continue ECC action Saturday afternoon at Mercy (2:30 pm).
