Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team topped Concordia 86-82 Monday evening in non-conference action at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. Junior guard Diego Maldonado led four players in double figures with 24 points in just 16 minutes of action.
Maldonado hit five three-pointers in the contest, while also contributing two of the Knights' 11 steals. Junior Tyree White had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Junior Marquis Roberts had 13 points, while junior Kyheim Chaplin had 11 points of his own.
Following a back and forth first half, the game's turning point came midway through the second. Trailing 65-61 with 13:20 remaining, the Knights went on a 14-0 run over 10 minutes, taking a 75-65 lead on a dunk by junior Travis Whitfield with 3:07 left.
The Knights never trailed again in the contest, but the Clippers cut into the lead late. A three by Concordia's Jalen Heath cut the deficit to three with 35 seconds left, before a jumper by Michael Fields with two seconds left cut the QC advantage to two, 84-82. Maldonado put the game away with two late free throws to push Queens ahead by four.
The Knights are back in action Saturday afternoon at UDC.
