Women's Hoops Moves To 2-0 In ECC With Win At Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team moved to 2-0 in East Coast Conference action after a 66-53 victory over Mercy Saturday afternoon.  The Knights knocked down 10 three-pointers in the contest, the first time QC has connected on double digit trifectas since February 27, 2013.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mahon led three players in double figures with 16 points, connecting on five three-pointers in the contest.  Senior Kristen Korzevinski registered 14 points while also grabbing six rebounds, four steals and five assists.  Grad student Raychel Shannon had 13 points and connected on three three-pointers off the bench.

The Knights outrebounded the Mavericks 48-32 in the game, as senior Elisabeth Gully had 14 boards, including six on the offensive end, and Melissa Fumano tallied 11 of her own.

The Knights were aided by a 26 point first quarter, which pushed QC ahead by 15 points after the opening 10 minutes.  Despite being outscored 13-9 in the second quarter, Queens held a 35-24 lead at intermission.

Queens held on to the lead for good in the second half as Mercy was only able to get within nine over the final 20 minutes of action.

Mercy was led by Deasia Goodson's 22 points and 11 rebounds.  The Knights are back in action Wednesday evening at Adelphi.
