QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior guard Tyree White posted 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, and junior guard Diego Maldonado connected for 20 points, and knocked down six three pointers as the Queens College men's basketball team defeated Pace 78-76 in overtime Friday evening at Fitzgerald Gymnasium as part of the ECC/NE-10 Challenge.

The Knights connected on 12 three pointers in the contest, continuing a trend from a season ago when QC connected on 10 or more trifectas 12 different times.  Junior Kyheim Chaplin contributed 15 points off the bench, knocking down four of his six shot attempts, including three from behind the arc.  Sophomore guard Simon Green tallied eight assists in the contest for QC.

The Knights controlled the early pace of the ball game, as a three by Chaplin with 8:38 remaining in the first half gave QC a 23-13 lead.  A pair of Chaplin free throws with 6:19 left in the stanza pushed the Knights to an eight point lead, 30-22.

From there, the Setters ended the period on a 17-9 run as Ryan Peterson's buzzer beating three pointer gave Pace a 39-37 advantage at half.  White opened the second half with a three to regain the lead for a moment before a Kyle Pearson layup pushed the Setters back ahead.

Pace held the advantage until midway through the period, when a three by Chaplin evened the score at 53 with 8:05 left.  Ahead 64-60, the Knights saw the Setters go on a late 7-3 run as a layup by Victor Jusino evened the game at 67 with 48 seconds remaining.

The Knights had one final crack at the win in regulation as a three by Maldonado rimmed in and out in the final seconds of the period as the game headed to overtime.

Maldonado connected on his first attempt from the outside in overtime, as QC led throughout the entire extra frame.  Green connected on a pair of free throws with 46 seconds remaining to push the lead to five, 76-71, before a pair of free throws by Carson Murphy gave QC late breathing room.

Pace had four players in double figures, led by Shelton Mickell's 19 points.  The Knights are back in action Saturday evening at 6:30 pm against Adelphi, who defeated Dowling 85-65 in the Challenge's opening game Friday.
