Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. – It took senior Pol Narbona a single touch to put home the match's opening goal in the 15th minute and the Queens College men's soccer team went on its way to defeating Daemen College, 3-0, in East Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Bouncing back from a 3-0 loss at Adelphi, Queens exploded out of the first kick. The Knights attempted seven shots in the first 13 minutes, with seniors Isaiah Kossinne and Paul Sandoval's efforts in the 8th and 11th minutes forcing the opposing goalkeeper to make timely saves. Relentlessly on the attack, Queens College broke through in the 15th minute when Kossinne's cross found Narbona at the far post for the forward's first goal of the season.
A goal in hand, the Knights kept up the pressure. Another attempt by Narbona in the match's 23rd minute required a save, and following a mass substitution for Daemen in the 25th minute, junior Nicholas Matusewicz broke away from the defense off a feed from Kossine to score his second goal of the season.
With Queens on the offensive for most of the match, the Wildcats were unable to find equal footing. The Knights outshot their opponents by a wide margin, 21-3, and put 13 of them on target. Out of blocked attempt in the 62nd minute from senior Aitor Gurrutxaga, Queens College earned a corner kick. Senior Glen Reid delivered the set piece, and after a scrum in front of the net, senior backfielder Calvin Moyes toed in his second goal of the season to make the score 3-0 and put away the match for good.
With the result, Queens College moved to 3-6-0 on the season and lifted its East Coast Conference record to over-.500 at 3-2-0. With four matches remaining on the conference schedule, the Knights are in a tie with Dowling College for the fourth and final playoff spot. On the other end, the Wildcats fell to 2-7-1 and 0-3-1 in conference competition.
