Box Score Flushing, N.Y. - Queens College sophomore Kyheim Chaplin can't seem to miss lately, as he tied his career-high with 22 points in an 81-72 loss to Roberts Wesleyan on Friday. Part of the 22 points included a prefect line, 13-13 from the charity stripe, where Chaplin is 26-26 going back past his last three contests.
The Knights took their first of two leads in the game by scoring the very first basket, a pull up jumper from Paul Little. The forward finished with 13 points and two blocks. Roberts scored the next 12 points to pull ahead, 12-2. QC spent most of the game going uphill and fighting hard to erase the deficit. Queens got as close as four, at 14-10, when Jeremiah Mordi sank two free throws and Shaquille Thomas made a three-pointer. Little made another jumper at 10:11 to get the Knights within two points, 22-20.
After a Redhawks basket, Chaplin was fouled on a three-point attempt and the Freeport, New York, product sank all three freebies to get QC within a point, at 24-23. Thomas scored a bucket in the closing seconds of the half to even the score at 31-31 at the break.
Roberts opened the second half by building another lead the Knights would eventually erase. With the score at 44-38 for the Redhawks, Queens layups from Matej Jurcevic and Obi Udezeh to pull within 44-42 with 14:50 remaining.
Queens took the lead for the first time since the games opening basket when Mordi made a three-poiinter at 11:34 to put QC ahead, 51-48. That lead lasted less than 20 seconds as Roberts scoring on the ensuing possession. They never relinquished the lead and went on to win, 81-72.
In the game, Chaplin tied a career-high with 22 points. He had scored 22 points against Mercy on January 11, 2014. Mordi finsihed with 19 and ten rebounds.
The team returns to action on Saturday, January 31, when they host Daemen at 3:30 PM.
