Kyheim Chaplin Perfect from the Foul Line in Loss at Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. - After waiting a day to face the top school in the East Coast Conference, the Queens College men's basketball team fought hard but fell late to Bridgeport, 82-71.  Kyheim Chaplin was 9-9 from the charity stripe en route to scoring 14 points in the game.

Queens jumped out to a 4-3 lead in the first two minutes of action as Mohamed Dansoko and Paul Little each has baskets.  From there, the Purple Knights used an 11-0 run to take a 14-4 advantage.  Chaplin answered with a three-pointer to pull the Knights to 14-7.  He them drew a doul on a three-point attempt and sunk all three free throws.  QC was within four.  Later in the half, Diego Maldonado hit a jumper to tie the game at 19-19.  Bridgeport pulled away a bit, leading 41-34 at halftime.

Queens slowly eroded the lead in the second half, eventually Jeremiah Mordi made a trifecta to pull QC within two, 58-56.  Ath the 7:50 mark, Shaquille Thomas made a three to put the Knights ahead, 59-58. Bridgeport took the lead for good with five minutes left and went on to an 82-71 win.

Mordi led the Knights with 16 points.  Maldonado and Thomas finished with 13 points.  The Queens College men's basketball team returns to action on Friday, January 30, when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 7:30 PM.
