Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team was a victim of bad luck on Thursday night, as they fell to Dowling, 82-77 in an East Coast Conference game played at Fitzgerald Gym in Flushing. The Knights bench outscored their counterparts on the Golden Lions, 46-0, but Dowling made enough shots down the stretch to get the win.
Mohamed Dansoko opened the scoring with a layup. From there, the Golden Lions tallied 11 straight points to lead 11-2. Jeremiah Mordi stopped the run with a jumper. A three-pointer at 12:40 put Dowling up by ten, 19-9.
Queens got hot from there and used a 15-2 run over a 3:51 stretch of game time to take a 24-21 lead. Shaquille Thomas scored seven of his 15 points in that scoring spree. Obi Udezeh scored five and Mordi made a basket.. Udezeh finished with 13 and Mordi added 19. Dowling came back and took a 40-35 lead at the half.
The Knights fell behind by nine early in the second half, but Anthony Hodges hit a three-pointer to pull within six. At the 10:43 mark, Udezeh made a trifecta to pull QC within three, at 57-54. Queens would take a one-point lead when Mordi made a three-pointer with 4:31 remaining.
With under two minutes remaining and trailing by a point, Matej Jurcevic went strong to the basket and drew the foul. The freshman drilled both foul shots and the Knights had a 74-73 lead. Dowling took the lead for good on the next possession and went on to win 82-77.
Kyheim Chaplin chipped in with the reserves with 12 of their 46 points. The team returns to action on Saturday, January 24, when they face Bridgeport in Connecticut. The tipoff is slated for 3:00 PM.
