Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y. - In less than a week after eclipsing the 1000 point plateau, senior guard Jeremiah Mordi posted a double-double with game-highs in points (27) and rebounds (15) as the Queens College men's basketball team fell to Molloy, 63-58, in a game played in Rockville Centre on Tuesday. Mordi shot 10-20 in the contest.
The game was back and forth early as a Mohamed Dansoko layup tied the score at 5-5 at 18:11. From there, the Lions took a lead that got as large as nine points when Jaylen Morris made a jumper to make the score 17-8 for Molloy. Mordi answered with a jumper and a three-pointer and QC was within four, at 19-15.
Molloy went on the offensive again, pushing the advantage back to six. A Shaquille Thomas trifecta at 8:14 pulled QC within 23-20. The Knights weren't able to draw any closer as the Lions held a 40-32 lead at the half.
A Molloy trifecta at 14:23 of the second half gave them a 12-point lead. The Knights went on the offensive there, using an 11-0 run to pull within a point, 50-49. Mordi opened the run with a three. Thomas followed with a layup on the break. Kyheim Chaplin and Mordi each made foul shots before Diego Maldonado made a basket. Thomas capped the run with another bucket.
After a Molloy basket stopped the scoring spree, Mordi nailed a three and Dansoko got a steal that lead to a Chaplin three-point-play that put QC ahead, 55-52. Molloy regained the lead and went on to win, 63-58.
The Queens College men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, January 22, when they host Dowling College. The tip-off with the Golden Lions is slated for 5:30 PM.
