Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team used a strong first half to defeat the Molloy Lions, 65-56, in an East Coast Conference game played at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, New York, on Tuesday. The team is now 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the ECC. Kristen Korzevinski scored a game-high 18 points for the Knights.
Queens led at the end of the first half, 40-20. It was back and forth early on as QC lead 6-4 with 16:46 left. From there, Queens used an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to push the lead to ten, 14-4. MacKenzie Rowland scored four points and Korzevinski and Madison Rowland had two points apiece. Queens turned up the defensive pressure the remainder of the half. They limited the Lions to just 20 first-half points. Molloy suffered through three different scoring droughts. An Imani Davidson layup with 0:37 left put the Knights up, 40-20.
Queens opened up its largest lead of the game, 23 points, when a Davidson three-pointer at 16:30 made the score 45-22 for Queens. The Lions responded with a 12-0 run to cut the score to 45-34 for Queens. Molloy got as close as eight points, but MacKenzie Rowland kept them at bay by making three foul shots after drawing a foul on a three-point attempt.
The Lions closed to four point with 2:11 left, but QC put held them scoreless the rest of the way. MacKenzie Rowland made a free throw, Korzevinski made a bucket and Taylor Miller closed out the scoring with two free throws.
In the win, Madison Rowland had 17 points and ten rebounds. MacKenzie finished with 16. The team returns to action on Thursday, January 22, at 7:30 PM.
