Four Knights in Double Figures in 70-69 Loss to LIU Post

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team fell to LIU Post, 70-69, in an East Coast Conference game played at Fitzgerald Gym on Saturday.  Jeremiah Mordi finished with a double-double, but Paul Little, Diego Maldonado and Mohamed Dansoko each reach double figures in scoring for the Knights.


QC came out of the opening tip red hot, taking a 12-1 lead over the first 5:50 of gametime.  After the Pioneers opened the scoring with a free throw, the Knights took over.  Maldonado scored six points on a pair of three-pointers, Little brought the crowd to its feet twice with a pair of spectacular dunks, and Dansoko capped the scoring with a layup.


About two-and-a-half minutes later, a Little block led to a dunk by Mordi that gave QC 20-6 cushion.  At 8:58, Queens had its largest lead of the game, 17 points, when Kyheim Chaplin found Mordi for a jumper.


The final nine minutes of the first half saw LIU Post slowly chip away at the deficit, eventually taking a 33-32 lead with 2:03 remaining.  That was the halftime score.


Queens took a 37-33 lead early in the second half, as they opened the frame with five straight points on a three-pointer from Maldonado and a bucket from Dansoko.  The Pioneers would build a 46-41 lead with 13:54 left.  From there, QC used an 8-0 run to grab a 49-46 advantage.  Dansoko scored four points and Mordi and Maldonado each scored two points.


LIU Post responded by taking a second, six-point-lead.  The Knights countered with a Chaplin three to go up one, with 3:38 left.  The Pioneers regained the lead, and, with just 0:15 remaining in the game and trailing by a point, Anthony Hodges found Little for a basket that put QC ahead, 69-68.


The Pioneers would hit a shot with three seconds left to take the game, 70-69.  Mordi nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.


The Queens College men's basketball team faces Dowling College on Thursday, January 22.  The opening tip is slated for 5:30 pm.
