Knights Win Second Straight with 76-68 Triumph Over NYIT

Old Westbury, N.Y. - After getting off to a slow start this season, the Queens College men's basketball team picked up its second straight win with a 76-68 victory over NYIT from Old Westbury, New York on Wednesday.  Four Knights scored in double figures in the win.


The first six-and-a-half minutes of action saw the Bears slowly build a six-point cushion, leading 12-6, with 13:32 remaining in the half.  The Knights used an 11-5 run over the next six minutes to even the score at 17-all.  In that scoring spree, Jeremiah Mordi, Kyheim Chaplin and Anthony Hodges all made three-pointers while Paul Little added a bucket.  The score would later be tied at 24-24 with 7:24 left in the half.


The Knights closed out the half by taking an eight-point lead, 42-34.  Shaquille Thomas scored all eight of his points in that stretch.


The second half had NYIT cut the lead down to three points on three different occasions.  The final time came at 11:52, when a Bears jumper made it 49-46 for Queens.  From there, QC rattled off nine straight points to take a 12 point advantage.  The 9-0 run had Little score four points, Diego Maldonado accounted for three and Anthony Hodges added a layup.  The Bears never threatened and QC went on to the 76-68 win.


Mordi led the Knights with 19 points.  Little finished with 12 and Maldonado had 11.  Hodges recorded 10 assists and fell one point shy of a double-double, for the second straight game.  Mohamed Dansoko had seven points.


The QC reserves outscored their counterparts, 20-8 in the game.  Thomas scored eight points on 3-5 shooting and Chaplin chipped in with 12 points on a perfect, 4-4 night.  The team is now 2-10 overall and 2-3 in East Coast Conference competition.


The Knights return to action on Saturday, January 17, when they host LIU Post.  The tipoff with the Pioneers is slated for 1:30 PM.
