JERRY MORDI INTERVIEW
Flushing, N.Y. - Jeremiah Mordi finished the game with 26 points and 14 rebounds in an 88-81 win over the District of Columbia Firebirds in Fitzgerald Gym on Saturday. The Knights are now 1-10 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.
The game opened with both teams exchanging baskets over the first two minutes. With the score tied at 4-4, a 7-0 run put the Knights up 11-4. The seven points came from Anthony Hodges, Paul Little and Mordi. Little had a double-double in the game with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Hodes had nine points and ten rebounds. The score would be tied five more times in the half, but the Firebirds led at the break, 41-40.
The Knights took a one-point lead at the 17:55 mark when Diego Maldonado hit a three-pointer off a Mordi feed that made the score 48-47. Later in the half, Hodges hook up with Maldonado with another trifecta that put QC ahead by eight, 65-57. A Mordi layup on the next possession gave Queens its largest lead of the game, ten points, 67-57. Maldonado sank a key free throw in the closing seconds to seal the 88-81 victory.
Maldonado scored 22 points in the win. The team had 21 assists and just seven turnovers. The team returns to action on Wednesday, January 14, when they face NYIT on the road. The tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
