Box Score Madison Rowland Talks About her Triple Double
Flushing, N.Y. - A season ago, Madison Rowland was one of thirteen players in Division II to record a triple-double. On Saturday, she became the ninth person in the 2014-15 season to do it as her big game led the Knights to a 77-71 win over the District of Columbia in a matchup between the East Coast Conference's top teams. Rowland tallied 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. She also had four steals.
After the Firebirds opened the scoring with a layup, Queens took a 6-2 lead on buckets from Imani Davidson, Rowland and Kristen Korzevinski. Korzevinski, who finished with 18 points, made her first seven shots and finished 8-10.
A UDC bucket at 16:13 made the score 6-4 for QC, but then the Knights got hot and used a 8-0 run to take a 14-4 lead. The eight points came from the Rowland sisters as Madison scored the first basket and MacKenzie Rowland scored the next six points.
The Queens advantage got to a game-high 16 when Davidson buried a three-pointer with 5:47 left to make the score 34-18. They led at the half, 44-36.
The second half began with UDC methodically chipping away at the QC lead. The Firebirds took the lead in the second half at the 4:16 mark, when a Shakena Williams three-pointer put them ahead 64-63.
From there, Korzevinski put the Knights ahead with a jumper 0:14 later. Madison Rowland made the lead four with a pair of foul shots shortly thereafter. Five straight UDC points put the Firebirds up 69-67 with about three minutes remaining.
A Madison Rowland layup with 1:14 left tied the game at 71-all. The Knights scored the next six points to win 77-71.
In the victory, MacKenzie Rowland finished with a double-double of 17 points and ten rebounds. Davidson added 16 points. The Knights won their seventh-straight and improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the East Coast Conference.
The Queens College women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 14 at NYIT. The tip-off with the Bears is slated for 5:00 PM.
