Flushing, N.Y. - The final home game of the season on Saturday was more than just a normal home game for Queens. It was their senior day, it was a battle between two of the top teams in the East Coast Conference , and it would determine whom QC would face in the upcoming ECC Championship. LIU Post got the better of the Knights, 84-63, as Queens learned it will host Dowling in Fitzgerald Gym on Tuesday.
In her final regular-season home game, Melissa Gardner scored 12 points, while Madison Rowland finished with 19 in the loss. Gardener, Tara Fearon and Takiya Webb were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
The game began at a frenetic pace on the defensive ends of the floor as neither side could muster a basket for the first two-and-a-half minutes of action. Eventually Kristen Korzevinski opened the scoring with a three-pointer at 17:32. Over the next five minutes of game time, the Pioneers methodically built a ten-point cushion, leading 17-7 on a Shayna Gatling layup at 12:38.
QC used the next eight minutes to slowly chip away at the lead, pulling within two points when Korzevinski made a layup inside of four-and-a-half minutes. LIU Post led at the break, 28-20.
The Pioneers took control in the second half, pushing the advantage to as many as 21 points and went on to win, 84-63.
The Queens College women's basketball team earned the three seed in the upcoming ECC Championship. The team will host Dowling College on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:00 PM from Fitzgerald Gym. The Knights defeated Dowling in both regular-season contests.
