Pair of Kyheim Chaplin Free Throws Late in Game Seal 60-57 Win at NYIT

Old Westbury, N.Y. - Kyheim Chaplin buried a pair of free throws with 0:09 remaining to help lift the Knights to a 60-57 win over NYIT from Old Westbury, New York.  The team is still alive for the final playoff spot.

Queens had a 43-31 halftime edge in the game largely on a run they made late in the first half.  With QC ahead, 24-23, at the 8:24 mark, Jeremiah Mordi Dejuhan Gray made four staight free throws and the Knights led by six, 29-23.  From there, Erick Satchell made a foul shot to pull the Bears within five.

The Knights pushed the lead to double digits as Chaplin made a three-pointer, Patrick Parker scored on a layup and Amir Tarif scored four straight points to make the score 38-27 with 2:39 left.  Mordi closed out the halfby beating the buzzer with a three as Ronald Washington, Jr. got a steal, kicked the ball to Parker, who found Mordi for the trifecta.

In the second half Queens got the lead as high as 14 points when Parker scored at 17:17 to make the score 49-35.  Chaplin made the advantage 16 with a steal and a layup inside of 13 minutes.

The Bears slowly chipped away at the deficit and got to within one point, 68-67, following a dunk by Kachi Nzerem with 1:30 left.  From there, Chaplin was fouled down the stretch and calmly made both freebies to clinch the game.

In the win, Mordi finished with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Gray pulled down a game-best 14 boards.  Tarif led all scorers with 25 points on 12-of-14 shooting.

The Queens College men's basketball team will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 1, when they host LIU Post.  The Senior Day ceremony will honor Amir Tarif, Patrick Parker and George Holmes prior to the start of the contest.
