Jeremiah Mordi Ties School Record for Three-Pointers in a Game in 71-67 Win over Mercy

Flushing, N.Y. - Jeremiah Mordi tied the Queens College, single-game record for three-pointers in a game en route to a career-high 38 points in a 71-67 win over Mercy from Flushing on Monday.  Mordi shot 13-16 in the win including 8-10 from the three-point line.

Mordi's eight trifectas tied the school's mark, set by John Sikiric on February 14, 2004, at Concordia.  His 38 points surpassed his old career mark of 33, which set against these same Mavericks on January 14, 2012.

After a Mordi steal led to a Dejuhan Gray bucket that evened the score at 7-7, Mercy would take a slim, five-point lead before Queens would tie it up.  The Mavericks did this three times in the first half and each time QC countered.  Late in the first half, Dallas Serrano put QC up three, 31-28 by sinking a pair of foul shots at 2:10.  The Mavericks then closed out the half on a 6-2 run to lead 34-33 at the break.

In the second half, with the score knotted at 39-all, Mercy used a 6-2 run to lead 45-41, with 14:23 remaining. Queens scored the next five points as Patrick Parker connected on two foul shots; while Mordi buried a three-pointer to put QC up one.  The Knights never trailed for the remainder of the game, and they even built a 13-point cushion when Amir Tarif scored to put QC ahead, 68-55, with 3:41 left.

Mercy cut the deficit to three, but Mordi sealed the win with a foul shot in the closing seconds.  Besides Mordi's 38, Dejuhan Gray scored a season-best 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

The Queens College men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, February 19, when they host UDC at 7:30 PM.
