Box Score Amherst, N.Y. - For the second straight game, the Queens College men's basketball team held a lead at the half and for the second straight game, they saw the lead dissipate in the second half, as they fell to Daemen, 93-75 in an East Coast Conference game played in Amherst, New York, on Saturday. The bench was the story for the Knights, as the QC reserves outscored the Daemen subs, 48-10.
Queens dominated play in the first five minutes of action, building a 12-4 lead. The 12 points came on a Chris Leppanen three, four points Guilherme Brodt, a three-pointer from Anthony Hodges and a bucket from Re'Quan Hopson.
At the 11:44 mark, the Wildcats made a basket to pull within two points, 17-15. QC then got hot and used a 16-0 run to open up a 33-15 advantage. The scoring spree had Paul Little open and close the run with a layup and a trifecta. In between, Shaquille Thomas scored a three-pointer, Diego Maldonado made a pair of free throws, Jeremiah Mordi made a bucket and Hodges made a pair of threes. Daemen fought back and cut the gap to six points at the half, 43-37.
Daemen took the lead for good around the 15 minute mark of the second half. They went on to win 93-75. The Knights dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in ECC play.
Hodges came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points. He made 7-of-9 three-pointers and gave out seven assists. Little finished with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. As a team, QC shot 46.9% from behind the three-point line (15-32).
The Queens College men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, December 17, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas. The opening tip is slated for 7:30 PM.
