Rochester, N.Y. - Queens College sophomore Madison Rowland earned enough hardware as a freshman to fill a large display case. On Friday night, she had a performance that underscored her accolades as she scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, gave out seven assists, collected six steals and didn't commit a single turnover in a 70-60 win over Roberts Wesleyan in the East Coast Conference opener from Rochester, New York.
Queens scored the first four points of the game as Imani Davidson opened with a three-pointer and MacKenzie Rowland followed with a foul shot several minutes later.
With 8:15 to go in the half and the Knights up 12-11, QC pushed its lead to seven as Davidson and Kristen Korzevinski hit back-to-back trifectas. The six point cushion was the difference in the half as Queens led, 31-25, at the break.
An 8-0 run barely two minutes into the second half put QC up ten, 41-31. The run was keyed by six points from Madison Rowland and two from Korzevinski. Rowland also had a pair of steals in that stretch. Davidson made a layup with 4:09 remaining that gave QC its largest lead of the game, 18-points, as her bucket made the score 59-41. The Redhawks closed to within ten, but QC won 70-60.
Besides Rowland's big day, Davidson finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Raychel Shannon came off the bench to score nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. The team is now 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in ECC play.
The Queens College women's basketball team looks to go 2-0 in conference as they face Daemen on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
