Box Score

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season by winning its home-opener from Fitzgerald Gym in Flushing on Tuesday.  The Knights defeated the Nyack Warriors, 72-40, to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The first four minutes of play saw the score go back and forth as neither side could gain any substantial lead.  With the score even at 6-6, Queens used an 8-0 run to open up a 14-6 lead.  MacKenzie Rowland and Kristen Korzevinski each had a basket in the run, and Madison Rowland scored four points.

Nyack never caught up, and QC pulled away from there.  The Warriors got as close as five points with 8:43 left, but they could get no closer.  Queens held Nyack scoreless from the 8:12 mark to the 1:51 mark of the half.  The 6:21 scoring drought saw the Knights open up a 37-14 lead.  They led at the half, 41-16.

The second half saw QC lead by as many as 34 points as they went on to a 72-40 win.  In the victory, Madison Rowland had her third-straight double-double and narrowly missed a triple-double.  She shot 10-of-20 for 23 points to go along with ten rebounds, eight steals and four assists.  MacKenzie finished with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.  Melissa Fumano chipped in with eight points before fouling out.  Amber Harrison came off the bench to dish out a game-best five assists.

Madison Rowland was honored for leading the nation in steals per game last season in a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday.  All 11 players who dressed for the Knights got into the game, and nine of the 11 scored points.  Raychel Shannon scored a season-best, three points in the triumph.  Twanda Holder buried a baseline jumper to account for her points.  The Queens College women's cross country team held its Senior Day ceremony at halftime as Anita Korosi and Bernadette Gruol were honored.

The team returns to the hardwood on Sunday, November 30, when they face in Pleasantville, New York.  The opening jump is slated for  1:30 PM.
