Men's Soccer Out Shoots Roberts Wesleyan, But Loses 1-0

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's soccer team put on an offensive performance in front of many of the alumni and fans who returned for the athletics alumni weekend tailgate party, which was taking place on the parking garage during the game.  The Knights out shot the Redhawks, 18-5, but Roberts Wesleyan managed the game's only goal in a 1-0 win.

Queens nearly got on the board in the 12th miunte after they pushed the attack and earned a corner kick.  On the ensuing corner, Nikolas Maher put the ball into the six-yard-box where Pol Narbona got his head to it and put it on goal, forcing the Redhawks keeper to make the save.  Narbona would take six shots in the contest, with four of them on goal.

Roberts Wesleyan scored the game's lone goal in the 35th minute.  After earning a foul near midfield, Roberts Wesleyan defender Alex Harling put the free kick into the six-yard box where Malcolm Shaw was wide open to head the ball past James Brostowski for the score.  Despite giving up the goal, Brostowski made five saves, including a fantastic, diving save in the 44th minutes, saving another marker in the process.

The Knights pressed the action in the second half, but wer eunable to capitalize on the equalizer.  James Dukas came on as a substitute in the second half and nearly evened the score in the 47th minute when he shot was stopped by the Redhawks keeper.  Queens couldn't find the equalizer as Roberts Wesleyan won, 1-0.

The Queens College men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 22, when they face Georgian Court in Lakewood, New Jersey.  The opening kickoff is slated for 3:30 PM.
