Late Free Throw from Modzelewski Helps Seal Knights Win over Molloy, 51-47

Flushing, N.Y. - It was the home teams that triumphed in the men's basketball season series between Molloy and Queens College, as the Lions beat the Knights in Rockville Centre back in November, but QC prevailed over Molloy on Wednesday night in Fitzgerald Gym, thanks in large part to a Patrick Modzelewski foul shot in the closing seconds.  The Knights prevailed, 51-47, and are 3-1 in their last four contests.

It was Queens who jumped out to the early lead as baskets from Jeremiah Mordi and Patrick Parker put themup 4-0, just three minutes into action.  Molloy rallied to even the score at 4-all from there.  Modzelewski put QC ahead again, as he buried a three-pointer off a feed from Kyheim Chaplin at 13:31.

Neither side could get a large lead the rest of the half.  The Knights had the largest advantage in the first twenty minutes, 20-14, when Parker made a layup with 2:21 left.  Queens led at the break, 20-17.

The 15:33 mark of the second half gave Molloy its first lead since midway through the first half, as Brandon Williams made a foul shot to put the Lions up, 23-22.  Eventually the game woul be knotted at 44-44 when Amir Tarif found Parker for the game-tying layup at 4:46.  From there, the Knights took the lead for good when  Mordi connected with Modzelewski for a jumper with 3:36 remaining.  Up by two with 0:15 left, both Parker and Modzelewski made free throws to help seal the victory.

Parker led the Knights with 15 points; while Modzelewski posted a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds).

The Queens College men's basketball team looks for its fourth in in five games when it hosts Dowling College on Thursday, January 30.  The tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
