Patrick Parker's Clutch Play Lifts Knights to 79-77 Win over LIU Post in Overtime

Brookville, N.Y. - Patrick Parker was the team's second leading scorer just a season ago, but against LIU Post on Saturday, the All-Conference player was held scoreless until just eight seconds remained on the clock.  But it was his driving layup that even the score at 68-all and forced overtime in an East Coast Conference matchup from Brookville, New York on Saturday.  Queens went on to win 79-77 in overtime.

The game went into overtime where LIU Post scored the first four points to lead 72-68, with 4:14 remaining.  Parker scored the next three points on a bucket and a foul shot, and Jeremiah Mordi gave the Knights a 73-72 lead when he made a pair of free throws with 2:32 left.  A Kyheim Chaplin three-pointer less than a minute later put QC ahead, 76-74, but the Pioneers evened the score on two foul shots from Vaughn Allen.

With 0:34 second left in overtime, P.J. Torres put LIU Post ahead, 77-76 on a foul shot.  From there, Parker, the All-Conference player, took over for the Knights.  The Queens, New York, native put Queens up 79-77 with a three-point-play with six seconds left.  The Pioneers missed the three-pointer in the closing seconds and QC had a 79-77, overtime win.

The game began with the Knights taking a 6-2 lead on baskets from Patrick Modzelewski, Jeremiah Mordi and Amir Tarif.  In fact, Tarif, who was facing his former team, finished the game on 9-11 shooting.

LIU Post responded with a run that put them ahead 18-10, with 10:58 left in the half.  Queens would trail by as many as 15 points, but the cut the lead to ten at halftime; trailing the Pioneers, 40-30.

The second half saw the Knights trail the entire way until the Parker layup with 0:08 remaining that evened the score at 68-68.

Mordi finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds.  Tarif had 18 points against his old team.  Kyheim Chaplin totaled 10 points.

With the win, the Knights improved to they have won three of their last four games.  The team returns to action on Tuesday, January 28, when they host Molloy.  The tip-off for the game with the Lions is slated for 7:30 PM.
