Women's Basketball Falls to LIU Post, 74-64, Despite Career Game from Madison Rowland

Brookville, N.Y. - Madison Rowland had a career afternoon for the Knights on Saturday afternoon in the Pratt Recreation Center, but Queens College fell to LIU Post, 74-64.  Rowland, a freshman from Cohoes, New York, finished with 30 points, a career-best, nine steals and shot 12-for-19 (63.2%).

In a battle of two of the top teams in the East Coast Conference, it was back and forth early on as neither side could grab a big lead.  The game was tied four times in the first eight-and-a-half minutes of play, culminating in a 14-14 stalemate that came when Madison Rowland hit a jumper, got a steal and made a layup on consecutive possessions.

The game would be tied three more times in the half as a Kasheema Besley found Joya McFarland for a jumper with 1:49 left; netting the score at 28-28.  LIU Post closed out the half with a pair of free throws and led 30-28 at the break.

Out of the half, a pair of Madison Rowland baskets in the first miunte of action put QC ahead, 32-30.  The Pioneers responded with an 11-0 run over the next three miuntes to grab a 41-32 lead.

The Knights responded by methodically eating away at the deficit as a three-point-play from Madison Rowland and another basket from McFarland got Queens with three, at 45-42.  Less than a minute later, a Marie Byrnes bucket pulled QC within one, 45-44.  The Knights completely erased the deficit at the 11:27 mark on a foul shot from Madison Rowland.

LIU Post would take the lead shortly thereafter and go on to win, 74-64.  With the loss, the Knights are now 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the ECC.

MacKenzie Rowland was the only other Knights player in double-figures, finishing with 11 points.  McFarland finished with nine points and two steals.

The team returns to action on Tuesday, January 28, when they host Molloy.  The game with the Lions is slated for 5:00 PM.
