Strong Defensive Effort Leads Knights to Second Straight Win in 69-50 Defeat of UDC

Washington, D.C. - The Queens College men's basketball held the UDC Firebirds t 20 first half points, and just 50 points in all, for a 69-50 win in an East Coast Conference matchup from our nation's capital.  The Knights held the Firebirds to 36.5% shooting, while they shot 56.2% themselves.

The first four-and-a-half minutes of action saw the two sides trade baskets as the game was even at 4-4.  QC turned up the defensive pressure at that point and used a 12-4 run to open a 16-8 advantage will 11:16 left.  In that run, Queens got points from Jeremiah Mordi (five), Kyheim Chaplin (four) and DeJuhan Gray (three).  They also forced three turnovers in the stretch.

The final eight minutes of the half saw the Knights build a 15-point lead.  A Patrick Parker three-pointer with 1:42 left gave Queens a 16-point lead, but they led at the intermission, 35-20.

With 15:12 left in the second half, a Chaplin jumper put QC ahead, 47-24.  The 23-point lead was the largest of the game for thee Knights.  Queens went on to win 69-50.

Three Queens players reached double-figures in scoring, led by Mordi's 15 points.  Chaplin and Amir Tarif each finished with ten points.  Richard Council, Jr. chipped in with eight points and three blocks in the win.

The Queens College men's basketball teams returns home on Wednesday, January 22, when they host NYIT.  The tipoff for the game against the Bears is slated for 7:00 PM.
