Queens College Women's Basketball Blows out Mercy for Sixth-Straight Win

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team defeated Mercy College, 86-67, in an East Coast Conference game played in Dobbs Ferry, New York on Saturday.  The victory, which was the team's sixth-in-a-row, raised the Knights' record to 11-3 overall and 7-1 in the ECC.

It was a sister act once again for the Knights as MacKenzie and Madison Rowland each posted  a double-double in the win.  Big sister, MacKenzie, shot 10-of-16 to finish with 26 points and 12 rebounds.  Madison had 24 points and 11 boards.  Elisabeth Gully also 13 rebounds before fouling out.

MacKenzie and Madison combined to score the first ten points of the game for QC, putting them up 10-7 with 16:11 left.  Later in the half, Maggie Salamone scored three of her team-best 20 points, to put the Mavericks ahead, 30-24, with 5:42 remaining.  Eventually Mercy went into halftime up 11, 48-37.

The second half saw the Knights hold Mercy to 19 total points, while scoring 49 themselves.  They scored the first 11 points of the half, eventually evening the score at 48-48, when Kasheema Besley hit a jumper.  Queens would score eight more points before the Mavericks could get on the scoreboard, as they run was capped by a Joya McFarland steal and layup.  The Knights never looked back and went on to win 86-67.

The Queens College women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 18, when they face UDC in Washington, D.C.  The tipoff is slated for 3:00 PM.
