Box Score Queens, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Georgian Court on Tuesday from Fitzgerald Gym. Both of the Knights' wins have come against CACC teams and Queens now has nearly as many triumphs in 2013 (two) as they did all of the 2012 season (three).
The Lions didn't make it easy for the Knights, as Queens jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the opening set. Georgian Court would come back and take a lead at 15-13. From there, both sides would jockey back and forth for the remainder of the set. Eventually Queens pulled away and won 30-28, with the final point coming off a strong serve from Xhesi Domi.
The second stanza began with the Lions taking five of the first six points to lead 5-1. Queens responded by rattling off four straight points to even the score at 5-apiece. Those points came from a couple of errors, an Angela Kranz ace and an Arielle DiCocco kill. From there, the score remained close until it was 17-16 for Queens. After that, QC scored three straight off of strong serves from Kranz. Later in the set and ahead 22-19, a Tori Bowser kill made it 23-19. Georgian Court answered with a point, but the Knights took the set, 25-20, as an Else Buchmiller killand Domi ace accounted for the final two points.
Set three had the Knights open up a 14-7 lead, and they never looked back. The Lions got as close as 17-16, but then Queens got a DiCocco kill to make it 18-16. The Knights pushed the advantage back to four points, at 22-18, from an error, another DiCocco kill and a combined block from Bowser and Ceren Kilic. Queens won the set, 25-23 and took the match 3-0.
The Queens College volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, September 14, when the host Felician and St. Anselm. The first match is slated for 11:00 AM.
