Flushing, N.Y. (March 2, 2013) – The Knights
men's basketball team enters the 2012-2013 East Coast
Conference postseason riding a 4-game winning streak after an 81-63
victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Senior Night.
The Knights recovered from an early 7-0 run put on by STAC, and
went into halftime with a slim 41-38 lead. The Knights were down
most of the first half, but a late run with under 6:30 to go in the
half helped fuel the comeback. After being down 28-24,
sophomore Abe Akanmu laid it in the hoop to start a 7-0 run, which
included a three-point basket by junior Kevin Nascimento. The 7-0
run gave the Knights a 31-28 lead, which would not be relinquished
the rest of the half. Going into the locker room, the Knights were
led by Akanmu's 11 first-half points.
In the second half, junior Patrick Parker, who only scored four
in the first half, went on to score 20 more points, to propel the
Knights to victory. Of those 20 second-half points, 12 of them were
courtesy of four 3-point baskets. The Knights would not surrender
the lead in the 2nd half and earned their
11th ECC victory.
The Knights' scoring on the day started with senior Nir
Mor, who recorded four points in his final game as a Knight on
Senior Day, including the penultimate Knights basket in the second
half. Fellow senior Daniel Watson added five points on the day as
well. They were honored at halftime for their commitment and hard
work to the men's basketball program by Knights head coach
Kyrk Peponakis (18th season) and his assistants Wayne
Zweigbaum, John Sikiric, Kirk Liddelow and Khalil McDonald.
As the fifth seed of the ECC tournament, the Knights will travel
to the 4th seeded Molloy in the East Coast Conference Quarterfinals
Lions in Rockville Centre, NY on Tuesday, March 6th at 7
PM.
