Rochester, N.Y. - It was a bittersweet
homecoming for Queens College senior, Bria Jackson (Rochester,
N.Y./Rush-Henrietta), as she score 25 points in from of family and
friends, but the Knights fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 85-73, in a game
played in Rochester, New York, on Saturday. With the loss, QC
fell to 10-13 overall, 7-9 in the East Coast Conference.
The first two-and-a-half minutes of play saw the Redhawks jump
out to a 9-2 lead before Kristin Korzevinski (New Hyde Park,
N.Y./New Hyde Park) scored consecutive baskets to bring the Knights
within 11-6.
Queens got as close as two, at 11-9, when Catherine Pastor
(Hewlett, N.Y./Hewlett) sunk a foul shot at the 15:07 mark.
Roberts Wesleyan pushed their lead back to 10, but baskets from
Pastor and Korzevinski got the Knights within five, at 28-23, with
4:53 remaining in the half. The Redhawks took a 37-29 lead
into halftime.
Jackson opened the second half with a three-pointer, and the
Knights were within five. From there, Roberts Wesleyan used a
6-0 run to open their first double-digit lead of the game, 11
points, with 16:52 remaining. Jackson answered once again,
with another trifecta and Marie Byrnes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rutgers
Prep) followed with a basket of her own, and QC was within six
points again.
The Knights got as close as five points, but the Redhawks
eventually pushed their lead to 17 to put the game away.
Jackson scored a game-high 25 points. Korzevinski and Byrnes
each finished with 18 and Pastor contributed with 10 rebounds and
seven assists.
The women's basketball team returns to action on
Wednesday, February 27, when they face Dowling College at 5:00
PM.
