BOX SCORE
Queens, N.Y. - The Queens College women's
basketball team came out of Wednesday's game with UDC with a
58-39 victory, largely on the heels of a double-double from Cat
Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y./Hewlett). The junior swing player
recorded game-highs in points (16) and rebounds (12) to help the
Knights to their third win in their last four contests.
The first twenty minutes of action saw the Knights limit the
Firebirds to just 15 points, thanks to rebounding and stingy
defense. In fact, Pastor collected nine rebounds in that
time. QC jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first three minutes
of action as Kristen Korzevinski (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde
Park) scored the opening bucket and Pastor scored the next
four. From there, both sides kept it close until
a Lisanne Comeau (Toronto, Ont./St. Basil the Great) made a jumper
at 9:14 to put the Knights ahead, 16-11. They
then used a 9-4 run to close out the half with a 25-15 lead.
The second half started with Bria Jackson (Rochester,
N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) putting the Knights up 30-15 with a
three-pointer. A Pastor three-point-play at 16:01 put QC
ahead 35-17, and they never looked back. Eventually a Takiya
Webb bucket at 7:30, gave the Knights their largest lead of the
game, 51-31. They went on to win 58-39.
Jackson recorded a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in
addition to Pastor's. Korzevinski finished with 11
points and Marie Byrnes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rutgers Prep) chipped in
with eight and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Knights held the
Firebirds to just 23.5 percent shooting for the game while out
rebounding them, 49-38.
The team returns to action on Saturday, February 23, when they
face Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, New York. The start time
for that game is 2:00 PM.
