Sister Act Lifts Knights to Overtime Win Versus Damen

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College Women's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game with an overtime victory over Daemen, 95-86, in an East Coast Conference matchup from Fitzgerald Gym. The Knights improved to 5-0 at home with an overall record of 9-3. The Rowland sisters had a combined 58 points on 24-37 shooting (.649) as the Knights shot 37-74 (.500) from the field.

The first half went back and forth, but eventually the Knights methodically built a ten-point lead, 28-18, when Madison Rowland made the second of two free throws.  The Wildcats fought back and closed the gap to trail by just three points, 40-37, at halftime.

Early in the second half, Daemen grabbed a 43-42 lead, as Samara Colon made a layup.  Queens responded with an Elisabeth Gully jumper, and the Knights never trailed again.

MacKenzie Rowland fouled out with 3:47 remaining in regulation, but little sister, Madison took over, scoring 13 of the Knights final 20 points.

The Knights led 80-75, with 0:36 seconds to go in regulation before Daemen hit a three pointer and two late free throws to tie the game at 80.

Madison Rowland scored the first points in overtime off an offensive rebound as the Knights took a quick lead. Next possession, Rowland stole the ball and connected on a jump shot as Queens took a quick 4-0 run to start overtime. From then on, QC took control of the game and outscored the Wildcats15-6 in overtime.

Madison Rowland finished with a career-high 33, and her sister MacKenzie finished with 25 points. Joya McFarland finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Melissa Gardner grabbed 11 boards for Queens.

The Queens College women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 8, at St. Thomas Aquinas. Tipoff will begin at 5:30 PM.
