Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team had four different players reach double-figures in scoring, but they fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 70-63, in an East Coast Conference game played at Fitzgerald Gym on Friday. Tommie Starkes, Jr. had 13 points, Ronald Washington, Jr. finished with 12, while Amir Tarif chipped in with 11 and Patrick Modzelewski finished with ten.
It was a tale of two halves for the Knights, as they trailed by just one point, 36-35, after the first 20 minutes of action. The team shot 12-13 (92.3%) from the charity stripe in the opening frame. In fact, after falling behind 9-2, QC rallied and eventually evened the score at 28-28, when Tarif made a layup with 3:33 remaining. Queens took its first lead on its next possession, when Patrick Parker found Ronald Washington, Jr. open the wing. Washington calmly drained a three and the Knights led, 31-28 with 2:46 left.
In the second half, the Knights got their lead up to five points, when a Modzelewski jumper put Queens ahead, 45-40. The Red Hawks rallied to regain the lead, but QC evened the score once again as Parker made a driving layup with six minutes left.
The Knights got as close as two points in the final six minutes, but weren't able to erase the gap. Roberts Wesleyan prevailed, 70-63. QC returns to action on Sunday, December 22, when they host Daemen College at 1:00 P.M.
