George Holmes Scores a Game-High 24 Points in Loss to Stonehill

Easton, Mass. - Second Team All East Coast Conference selection from a year ago, George Holmes, paced the Knights with 24 points, as Queens fell to Stonehill, 78-65, in the final game of the Stonehill Tipoff Classic.  Queens is now 0-2 to start the year.

QC took a quick, 7-2 lead in the game as Holmes scored five of the first seven points for the Knights.  An Amir Tarif layup at the 11:45 mark gave Queens an eight-point cushion, at 15-7.  Tarif came off the bench to score 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting.  QC got the lead up to a dozen points when a Patrick Modzelewski layup at 8:55 made the score 26-14.  Stonehill chipped away at the lead from there, but the Knights went into the lockerroom with a 34-30 lead.

The second half saw Queens push its advantage back to seven points, 45-38, when Holmes bured a pair of foul shots at 14:19.  A shot by Jack Cole at 10:23 gave Stonehill the lead for the first time, but QC countered with a Tarif layup to regain the lead.  The Skyhawks regained the lead less than a minute later and never relinquished it the rest of the way en route to the 78-65 win.

Queens Colege has its home opener on Tuesday, November 12, at 7:00 PM, when they host Hunter College in the CUNY Challenge.
