Kilic's Double-Double not Enough as Knights Fall to Molloy, 3-1

Box Score

Flushing, N.Y. - Ceren Kilic posted her second double-double of the season against Molloy on Tuesday, but the 27 dig (a match-high), 10 assist performance wasn't enough as the Queens College volleyball team fell to the Lions in three sets in a match played at Fitzgerald Gym in Flushing.  The scores of the sets were 25-19, 17-25, 18-25 and 12-25.

Queens opened the first set with a 5-0 lead as the strong serving of Kilic led to four errors and an ace.  Later in the set, an Else Buchmiller kill gave the Knights their largest lead, eight points, when she made the score 10-2.  Molloy then used a 10-2 run to pull even at 12-12.  From there, Queens pulled away to capture the opening set, 25-19.

Set two began as a back and forth battle as the score was tied six different times, the last at 9-all.  The Lions slowly pulled away and built a four-point cushion at 18-14.  Queens responded though, as the team scored three straight to pull within a point, 18-17.  The three points came from a pair of Lions errors and a kill MacKenzie Hamilton, who saw her first action of the season.  Molloy scored the next seven points to take the set, 25-17.

Set three saw QC fighting an uphill battle again as they fell behind 7-2 early.  A kill from Kilic got the Knights within a point, at 8-7, but Molloy pulled away and won the third set 25-18.  The Lions closed out the match by taking the fourth set, 25-12.

The team is now 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in the East Coast Conference.  The Knights return to action on Saturday, October 5, when they host LIU Post in Fitzgerald Gym.  The first serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
