(Brookville, N.Y.) - Despite having three
players reach double figures in scoring, the Queens College
men's basketball team fell to 1-2 in conference play, with a
78-60 loss at LIU Post on Saturday. Pat Parker (Queens,
N.Y./Alfred State) led the way with 18 points; while Kevin
Nascimento (Harlem, N.Y./Genesee C.C.) and Daniel Watson (Mt.
Vernon, N.Y/Mt. Vernon) added 12 points and 10 points,
respectively.
The Knights took the first lead of the contest as Nascimento
made a layup less than a minute into the game. The Pioneers
responded with the next seven points before Nascimento found the
basket again. Abe Akanmu (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) got
QC back within a point, as his jumper at 16:08 made the score 7-6
for LIU Post. The Pioneers took control for the remainder of
the half and entered the break with a 36-24 advantage.
The second half saw the Knights get within 10 points, as they
used a 6-0 run to bring the score 47-37 for Post. Pat
Piasecki (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) George Holmes (Gordon Heights,
N.Y./Suffolk C.C.) and Watson accounted for the scoring in that
run. LIU Post pulled away for the 78-60 win.
The QC men's basketball team returns to action on
Wednesday, January 9, when they face Dowling College on the
road. The tip-off for the game with the Golden Lions is
slated for 7:00 PM.
