Women's Basketball Falls to #25 NYIT, 76-55

(Flushing, N.Y.) -The Queens College women's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night in a 76-55 defeat to #25 NYIT, at a game played at Fitzgerald Gym in Flushing.  With the loss, the Knights fall to 7-10 overall, 4-6 in East Coast Conference play.

Lisanne Comeau (Toronto, Ont./St. Basil-the-Great) had the hot hand early for the Knights as she led the team in the first half with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.  Her torrid pace kept up in the second half as she finished the game with 14 points, while making 6-of-8 field goals (.750).  The 14 points were a season-best for the guard, as she previously set the mark against the Bears on the road on December 8.

QC's leading scorer, Bria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) reached double-figures for the 16th time in 17 games this season.  The senior finished with a dozen points as well as game-bests in assists (six) and rebounds (seven).  Joya McFarland (Bronx, N.Y./JFK) finished with ten points as well.

The Knights had the lead over the first three plus minutes of game action before NYIT took the lead for good.  The Bears led by as many as 27 points, but Queens pulled within four points on a Marie Byrnes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rutgers Prep) three-point-play early in the second half.  The Bears pulled away from there and went on to the 76-55 win.

The QC women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 2, when they face St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York.  The tipoff for that game is slated for 1:00 PM.
