Flushing (N.Y.) January 16, 2013 – The Knights women's basketball team fell short to the Bridgeport Purple Knights in a competitive, 79-69 overtime loss for the team's fifth conference loss. The game was the third straight matchup for QC where they played into overtime, securing a win in double o.t. with Bowie State and falling to Molloy most recently before Wednesday's extra session.
The Knights started out on top, ending the first half ahead 36-35. Senior Bria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.?Rush-henrietta) led the first half scoring for the Knights with 11, including three baskets from beyond the arc. The Knights stayed within two most of the way and then finally pulled ahead by one with a last second three by Jackson at the buzzer.
In the second half, the Knights were led by rookie Joya McFarland (Bronx, N.Y./JFK), who put up 8 points in the half, helping the Knights stay on top or at least tied with 4 straight points late in the 2nd half. However, as the clock winded down, University of Bridgeport's Priscilla Dodoo, who led the team with 24 points, nailed a three to push the game to a 66-66 tie and into overtime.
In the overtime frame, the Knights kept pace with UB, but eventually fell too far for a comeback, as Dodoo sank two free throws from the foul line to put the Purple Knights up for good.
The Knights will end their three game homestand against Roberts Wesleyan at the Maurice FitzGerald Gymnasium on Saturday, January 19th at 2 PM.
