Men's Basketball Drops ECC Matchup to UDC; Mordi, McDonald Combine for 36

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Senior forward Khalil McDonald, who became the 25th player in Queens College men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points in the Knights' previous outing, was 9-for-15 from the floor in scoring 20 points Saturday night at Fitzgerald Gymnasium, as QC fell to visiting University of the District of Columbia, 91-67.

McDonald added four rebounds and three assists for the Knights, while sophomore guard Jeremiah Mordi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) chipped in with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and as many steals. Freshman point guard Abe Akanmu (Staten Island, N.Y.) added nine points and a team-high six assists, while sophomore forward Pat Piasecki (Coram, N.Y.) registered eight points in the low post.

Four points by McDonald and a lay-in by junior forward Daniel Watson (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) drew the teams into a 54-all tie less than six minutes into the second half. However, the visiting Firebirds pulled away from that point in taking control of the contest for good.

Head coach Kyrk Peponakis's Queens side continues its East Coast Conference schedule Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11), when it travels to Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium for a 3 p.m. tip-off at the University of Bridgeport.
