FLUSHING, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Nicole Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) registered 16 points, a team-high-tying six rebounds and four assists Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Gymnasium, as the Queens College women's basketball team recorded a strong first-half performance before falling to East Coast Conference colleague, University of the District of Columbia, by a 72-48 count.
Senior point guard Cadie Chu (Bellerose, N.Y.) added 10 points for the Knights, while sophomore forward Caitlin Hopkins (Holtsville, N.Y.) came off the bench to pick up six points, five rebounds, and team-highs of five assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Joanna Verouhis (Flushing, N.Y.) tied Caggiano with six caroms on the afternoon.
Queens led by as many as a 19-11 score in the first half, and went into the locker room trailing UDC by a 28-25 count.
Head coach Bet Naumovski's Knights are back in ECC action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11), when it travels to Bridgeport, Conn., for a 1 p.m. tip-off at the University of Bridgeport.
