White One Point Shy of Double-Double at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Junior forward Megan White (Whitestone, N.Y.) neared a double-double Saturday afternoon at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, but the Queens College women's basketball squad dropped a 56-42 decision to host University of Bridgeport, in East Coast Conference action.

Freshman forward Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) also neared a double-dip with eight points and nine caroms, while sophomores Caitlin Hopkins (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Nicole Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) added eight points apiece. Caggiano, senior Cadie Chu (Bellerose, N.Y.) and sophomore Joanna Verouhis (Flushing, N.Y.) each handed out four assists.

Verouhis's 3-pointer with 7:51 left in the second half gave QC a 40-39 lead -- their first of the contest. However, a late surge by the host Purple Knights was too much for Queens to overcome.

Head coach Bet Naumovski's Knights are back in ECC action Wednesday night (Feb. 15), when they travel to Brookville, N.Y., for a 5 p.m. tip at C.W. Post.
