Men's Soccer Thumps Caldwell, 4-1

The Queen's College men's soccer team had a one-off, 4-1 victory over CACC opponent Caldwell on Thursday from the Knights soccer field in Flushing.  This win leads the Knights into a crucial weekend game at LIU Post on Saturday.

The Knights were in control from the start as they went on the offensive early.  QC got on the board in the seventh minute shortly after earning a corner kick.  On the ensuing flick, the ball was in the goalie box for a few seconds before freshman Paul Sandoval (#9) (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) brought the ball in and blasted past the goalie into the upper right corner of the net; giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Two-and-a-half minutes later Queens College doubled their lead as a corner kick set up the goal once again.  Off the corner kick, the ball rattled around the box and Danny Stoker (London, England/RSSKL) flicked the ball of the far post, and it came back to the near post and then careened into the goal, making the score 2-0, QC.  Stoker would get on the scoreboard for the second time later in the game.

Early in the second half, the Cougars would get on the scoreboard.  Sophomore forward Dylan Ross dribbled past two defenders and beat the keeper for the goal, making the score 2-1 for QC.

Queens put the game away after that as Glen Reid (Falkirk, Scotland/British School of Houston) got the ball on the right side of the box in transition, dribbled past two defenders and flicked the ball past the keeper for his second marker of the season.  Stoker added his team-leading eighth goal on a penalty kick in the 84th minute and the Knights had the 4-1 victory.

In the win, Queens outshot Caldwell, 20-5 and 12-4 in shots on goal.  Stoker led everyone with seven shots, four of them on goal.  The Knights earned seven corners compared to two by the Cougars.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, October 20, when they face LIU Post in a crucial East Coast Conference game.  The matchup with the Pioneers is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.
