FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team put up a tremendous fight against a game Southern Connecticut State University squad Monday night at Fitzgerald Gymnasium, before the visiting Owls held on for a 61-51 victory over the Knights.
For QC, sophomore guard Nicole Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) led the team in scoring with 19 points, including a 3-for-7 effort from 3-point land. Junior forward/center Samantha Gillman (Bronx, N.Y.) poured in 12 points and pulled down a game-high-tying eight rebounds, while freshman Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made all six of her shots (2-for-2 FG, 4-for-4 FT) en route to an eight-point night.
Head coach Bet Naumovski's Queens side is back in East Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14), when it travels to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., for a 1 p.m. contest at Mercy College.
