ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Three players scoring in double figures was not enough for the Queens College men's basketball team Tuesday night in the second and final day of action at the sixth annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament, as the Knights fell victim to a late 3-point field goal by host Dominican College, 55-52.
The second half was close throughout, as it featured eight ties and six lead changes. Senior Khalil McDonald (Queens Village, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down a team-best-tying seven rebounds for the Knights, while classmate Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 12 points from the perimeter. Junior Daniel Watson (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) garnered 10 points, seven boards and a game-high three steals in a starting effort.
Head coach Kyrk Peponakis will lead Queens into their final regular-season non-conference showdown of the season Thursday night (Jan. 5), when the Knights travel to Rutherford, N.J., for a 7 p.m. tip at Felician College.
