Caggiano Goes for 26 Points at NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The nets of Recreation Hall were particularly kind to Queens College women's basketball sophomore Nicole Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) Wednesday night, as the shooting guard scored 26 points to lead all scorers in the Knights' East Coast Conference showdown at New York Institute of Technology.

The host Bears captured a 78-56 triumph.

Caggiano hit nine of her 19 field-goal attempts, including a 3-for-5 display from 3-point range. Add in her 5-for-6 effort from the charity stripe, and the sophomore finished just two points shy of her career-high points total (28), which she set Nov. 30 in the home-opening victory over Nyack College.

Freshman forward Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and swatted two blocked shots for QC, while sophomore guard Marissa Resnick (Jericho, N.Y.) made all three of her field-goal attempts en route to a career-best nine points.

Head coach Bet Naumovski's Knights are back in ECC action Saturday (Jan. 28), when they tip off at 1 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y., versus Molloy College.
