ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team battled through seven ties and 13 lead changes Tuesday night at the James Clancy Memorial Tournament, but were done in by a buzzer-beater in the final second-plus, as Post University captured a 71-70 decision.
There were many positives offensively for the Knights, as senior Khalil McDonald (Queens Village, N.Y.) poured in a game-best 22 points on 8-for-16 shooting. Classmate Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y.) was 6-for-9 from the floor, and 5-for-8 from downtown en route to 20 points, while sophomore Jeremiah Mordi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with 19 points (3-for-5 3FG), a game-high-tying seven assists and five rebounds - which tied with McDonald, senior Nana Boateng (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Nees Nikovic (Brooklyn, N.Y.) for the team-high. QC also stayed in the contest with a scorching 11-for-21 (.524) display from 3-point range.
Head coach Kyrk Peponakis's Knights will look to wrap up the Clancy tourney with a victory Tuesday night (Jan. 3), when they take on host Dominican College at 8 p.m.
