WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior middle hitter Jovana Pavlovic was named to the All-Tournament Team Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center, as the Queens College volleyball team wrapped up play with a pair of matches at the Bentley Invitational. The Knights fell by identical 3-1 scores against Stonehill, and the host Falcons.
Pavlovic (Belgrade, Serbia) picked up impressive double-doubles in both matches, including a solid 21-kill (.513), 14-dig, eight-block (three solo) outing in the nightcap against Bentley. In the opening match of the afternoon against the Skyhawks, the senior led all players with 12 kills and passed 17 digs on defense.
Stonehill 3, Queens 1 (25-10, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21)
In addition to Pavlovic's .300 hitting percentage, junior Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) added 12 kills and a match-high-tying 18 digs to help the Knights' cause. The setter tandem of senior Stephanie Schroeder (Lynbrook, N.Y.; three assisted blocks) and sophomore Ceren Kilic (Istanbul, Turkey) passed out 19 and 17 assists, respectively. Sophomore libero Erin Eckes (Oconomowac, Wisc.) added 13 digs on defense. Freshman Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added a 7-1-13 hitting line (.462) to go with four blocks (one solo).
Bentley 3, Queens 1 (27-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23)
All three of the sets that the Falcons won were by just two points, as Queens was in the match throughout. Along with Pavlovic's effort, Byrne added 13 kills and a team-best 21 digs, while Schroeder registered a double-double with 10 kills and 19 assists. Kilic's double-dip included 23 assists and 16 digs, while Eckes (three aces) and freshman Rita Romeo (Glen Oaks, N.Y.) added 12 and 11 digs on the back line, respectively.
Head coach Leanna Taylor's Knights (1-3) are back in action Tuesday night (Sept. 20), when they play host to Concordia College in Fitzgerald Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
