The Queens College Men's Basketball team lost a heart breaker to NYIT in overtime, 80-75. A crucial loss for the Knights sees them drop out of a tie for first for the time being with an overall record of 15-6 and 12-4 in conference play. With the win the Bears improve to 10-11 and an even 8-8 in ECC play.
For the third time this year the Knights picked up a heart felt loss in overtime. Queens who saw themselves down four at half were able to turn things around in the second stanza to force over time. Foul trouble for the Knights, who had 25 team fouls to Tech's 16 was to blame for the loss. Tech went to the line 34 times knocking down 25 of their attempts from the charity stripe, good for 74% for the game.
Queens had three players who had double digit scoring nights in the loss. Leading the way for QC was junior forward Khalil McDonald who had 25 points, good for both game and team highs. McDonald was 10-19 from the field as well as grabbing 9 boards for his club. Senior point guard Anderson Labase also contributed with 10 points of his own as well as adding 7 assists.
Despite the loss, the story of the night for Queens was senior guard Lamonte Lans. Lans poured in 18 points on 6-15 shooting from the field as well as 3-8 from trey. With his 15th point of the night Lamonte, for his career in a Knights uniform, recorded his 1,000th point. He now stands at 1,003 total points scored with five regular season games left in his career.
