Knights Smoke STAC in regular season Finale, 81-58

The Queens College Men's Basketball team concluded a successful regular season with a win over St. Thomas Aquinas this past Saturday, 81-58. The win improves the Knights overall record to 19-7 overall and 16-5 in conference play. The loss drops the Spartans to and overall record of 5-21 and 5-16 in the ECC.

 

Before the game Head Coach Kyrk Peponakis honored three Knights Seniors who played in their last regular season game in a Knights uniform. Seniors Anderson Labase, Lamonte Lans, and Terrell Simmons were all honored. Despite playing their last regular season game as Knights' the trio are lucky enough to have earned a home playoff game this coming Wednesday night. The Coaching staff and Athletic Department would like to thank these young men for their hard work and dedication they have shown in a Knights uniform as well as continued success in their post graduate endeavors.

 

Queens used a huge first half to down the Spartans Saturday night. Shooting an impressive 60% from the floor and 50% from the three point line the Knights took a 23 point lead into the half and never looked back, downing the Spartans 81-58. QC finished the game shooting a solid 51 % from the field, 50% from trey and 80% from the charity stripe.

 

Four Knights found themselves in double digits in the win. Junior Khalil McDonald led the way for his squad scoring a game and team high 19 points in 19 minutes of work. McDonald was a solid 5-9 from the floor as well as an impressive 7-8 from the free throw line. Senior Lamonte Lans added 18 points of his own, all of which came in the first stanza. Lans was a solid 7-13 from the field as well as 4-7 from trey. Senior Anderson Labase added 11 points while going 7-8 from the free throw line as well as dishing out 6 assists and swiping 6 steals.  Freshman Jeremiah Mordi rounded out the scoring for Queens while adding 10 points.

 

Queens opens up playoff action with a home game this Wednesday. The third seeded Knights will be taking on the Golden Lions of Dowling here on the campus of Queens College with tip-off slated for 7:00 pm.
